Although our Action Link interfaces have been designed to deliver an optimal user experience, they can still provide a blank slate for your own customisations.
Action Links provides a framework that supports the addition of your own custom styling and interactivity, while preserving the underlying structure of your Links. Here’s an example of a Christmas Gift Aid opt-in campaign, let’s break it down to see what you can achieve.
Almost all of our actions include an area for your own content, which is a blank slate for anything you want to display to your users. We’ve designed the Action Link interfaces with a horizontally split layout, which makes it easy to achieve full responsiveness across every size of device. It also means you don’t have to worry too much about responsive design when customising your Links, because the underlying layout enforces this for you.
The content area supports both markdown (a simple language for adding formatting and images), as well as HTML and CSS. For this Gift Aid example, we’ve overridden the default styling and included some festive graphics with HTML.
In addition to including HTML and CSS for individual Links, you can also add <style> (for CSS) and <script> tags (for JavaScript) at an organisation level to apply them to all of the Links you create. This is incredibly useful for achieving brand consistency across everything you do with Action Links. It also enables you to declare your own reusable JavaScript functions.
In our Gift Aid example we’ve added a simple function that grabs the `amount` parameter from the URL (that represents the total amount this particular customer has donated) and displays the calculated amount of Gift Aid the organisation can claim (25% of the amount donated). Personalising your messaging for individual customers can make your fundraising campaigns more compelling.
We’ve designed our forms to provide the best possible experience for your users, following the best practice advice for design and UX. But you can take them to the next level by adding your own customisations. In the case of our Gift Aid example, we’ve customised the content field to display the Gift Aid logo in a way that complements the legal text and reassures the user; and of course we’ve added that lovely animated rainbow glow to the checkbox – why wouldn’t they opt-in?!
